Such a Talented Child
Here is the famed Elmo t-shirt that kept Sophie pointing at her belly even after we put the shirt in the laundry. "Sophie, where's Elmo?"

"Elmo!" and points at his face with both hands.
The little red monster brings this child such glee.

In fact, today was just a happy day in general -- she spent it running amok in the house and laughing wildly.

In retrospect, that may have had something to do with the light dusting of powdered sugar all over everything, as a result of my second (yes, second) batch of Puppy Chow in as many weeks.

Hooray for sugar!

With every day that passes, her little personality just shows itself more and more. She is a very funny kid, who likes to tease and laugh and joke around. She knows LOTS of words now, and she will parrot new ones back to you if you say them to her.

But for all the giggling and talking, that's not her most impressive skill...

Because today, dear friends, today I learned that my amazing child can... (drumroll please)...

Play the piano with her rear end. Yes. Great things are in store for this young one, I can already see it.

All Dressed Up
So this is the part where I confess that I have become that woman. The one who (you already knew) dressed up small dogs in Halloween costumes. I have now graduated to matching my kid's dress to her doll.

And I am not the least bit ashamed. Because it is unbelievably adorable that they match. It makes me grin. Especially when Sophie sees her doll and yells "Bayyyy-beeeeeeee!" at the top of her lungs.

(Needless to say, Sophie and her baby sister will be sporting matching duds once Scarlett arrives, possibly with their own matching dolls for each of them. There is no end to the cuteness potential.)

Oh and this is just the beginning of the available Christmas outfits for the little miss. I've got at least 3 more, so she's going to have to find some parties to go to, ASAP, in the next week.

Either that or we are going to have several photo opp/costume changes on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.

The sparkly black shoes just kill me. Sophie picked them out (sort of. She picked bright pink sparkly ones.... I gently led her to the slightly-more-understated version of the same shoe, in black.)

Oops, and this is where I confess that she may or may not have opened one of her presents already. Thank you Aunt Jenny and Uncle Josh! :)

The wee princess sported this look to my firm's annual Christmas party, which was actually a tropical theme, but hey, who's really going to turn away this precious little mug?

The funniest part of her wearing this outfit is that she'd worn a t-shirt with Elmo's face emblazoned on it for most of the day before (and overnight), and she'd spent the whole day telling anyone who would listen, that "Elmo! Elmo! Elmo!" was on her shirt, and she'd point to his face. She hadn't gotten past this wonder by the time she was wearing the Christmas dress, so she spent the party telling people "Elmo!" and pointing to the big red and white bow on her chest.
Yes, honey. Elmo. Good job.

Little Swashbuckler
Lately we've taken a real liking to dress-up games.

The latest costume of choice?

Daddy's belt, sometimes worn as a necklace, sometimes wrapped twice around her waist and worn like a jaunty little swashbuckler.

She cried when I tried to take it off of her, so we let her wear it most of the morning.

See my belt, Mommy?

She finally tried to take it off herself, so I helped her, thinking we were done playing with the belt at that point.

Nope, she just started carrying it around over her shoulder instead.

Pigtails!
I finally bought the right size rubber bands to put Sophie's hair in pigtails.

And with one snap of the rubber band, she grew up from a baby into a little girl!

Eeek! She looks so much older with a "hairstyle."

I'm not sure I can handle it.

She went to school one day this week with her piggy-tails in, and the folks at school oohed-and-aahed over her.

I might not be ready for pigtails. I might not be ready for her to look so grown up.

I mean, that's no baby -- that's a certified toddler right there.

Aack! Someone slow down time!

The good thing about the baby-to-toddler transition: We get to enjoy new things that babies don't do, such as "playing pretend in cardboard boxes."

A room full of toys and she wants the cardboard box! :) Warms my heart.

Once she discovered the hide-and-seek potential of the top flap, it was ON.

Where is Sophie?

There she is!!

So maybe it will be okay for her to grow into toddlerhood. Its proving itself to be quite a fun age, even if I'm not ready for her to look so grown up in her pigtails. Time is flying by too quickly these days!

Quotable Quotes
Steven, to Sophie, at approximately 8:30 PM tonight:
"Ooookay, you're crying about your flashcards, and that means its time for bed."
[Gathers her up to carry her to bed, still talking to her]
"You know, Mommy did the same thing when she was studying for the bar exam. She cried over her flashcards, too. Are you doing a re-enactment of 2007? Yeah? Ok. Time for bed."
:)
